Thoughts from artist Cristina Iorga on her piece

How would you describe your practice?

My images begin with something concrete and representational. The next step is to remove the tangibility of it, layer by layer, revealing its spiritual, abstract essence. I think that the expression of this essence or pure feeling puts the viewer in touch with an alternative, ultimately spiritual world.

I find myself in a continuous search of the perfect visual form, a search which sometimes torments me and sometimes makes me happy. I try to develop a visual language without limitations on inventivity. The words of this personal language are sometimes fragile, at other times harsh and rigid. I like to create a lot of contrasts in my images, so I often juxtapose rigid forms and structures with organic forms. The line is pure energy for me; my emotion governs the line and the mood of my images.

What was the inspiration behind this piece?

This piece comes from the continuous search for my Inner Self. The more art I create the more I feel that different aspects of my personality are amalgamating for a higher purpose.

What do you believe is the role of art and the artist?

The role of art and the artist is to portray the truth as the artist perceives it.

What about Neon Door led you to submit?

I submitted to Neon Door because of the highly artistic and professional approach the magazine has.

How do you see your work evolving?

For me art is a necessity. It is a reflection of my soul. It is also my constant companion as I tread through this journey of life. I see it evolving through creation as it becomes an embodiment of my constant quest to harness my higher consciousness.
